INVESTIGATION AND RESEARCH ON THE SOCIAL CHARACTERISTIC OF COMFORT GIRL AND ACTUAL CONDITION OF V.D.AND ITS TREATMENT

Abstract
1. Conclusion The social characteristic, actual condition of V.D. and its treatment have been esamined and analyzed to the object of 206 comfort girls residing in the erea of Doweon-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu-si during one month from September 1, 1980, and the result can be aummarized as follows : 1. Social Characteristic 1) They are predominantly from Gyeongsangbug-do(42.2%), and from Busan city (14.6%), Gyeong-nam(12.6%), Gyeonggi-do (7.3%), and the city of Seoul(6.8%) in order. 2) The distribution by age is that 52.5% of them are age 20-24, and their average are 24.9 years old. 3) The educational background primary School, and their average education is quite low. 4) Their term of service is predominant in 1-2 years(32%), a 6 months - 1 year (22.8%) next, and their average term of service is getting to be shorter, until 19.7 months. 5) The age starting to be a comfort girl is predominant in 67.0% under 19 years old. 6) Their occupation before they come to be comfort girls were house affairs(27.2%), employees at restaurent(17.5%), house maid (10.2%), in order, and their occupations were chiefly the kind of low and unsafety income basis. 7) Their average income per month is 238,000 won, which is quite satisfactory, but they still want 17.5% more. 8) Their family background is that 35.4% of them have their parents alive and 64.6% of them have lost either one of their parents. 2. V. D. and Actual Condition of Treatment 1) 71.4% of them have had past history of V.D., and 45.6% of them have had past history of gonorhoea and 32% have recurrence. 2) Among those who have had past history, 43.2% have present illness, and 20.4% have gonorrhoea, 11.2% have non-lymph urethritis, and 6.8% have syphilis at present. 3) The method of treatment is 31.3% of them go to hospital, 32.0% depend on pharmacy, 19% self-treatment, and 17.7% hospitalized for treatment. 4) For treatment, the predominant course is by way of shot (25.2%), and medical treatment fee is to be 21.8%
